LSI Keywords for on page SEO and Google Ranking!

In this article, LSI Keywords, we tell you what Latent Semantic indexing, or LSI, is. How Google uses LSI technology and latent semantic analysis in an algorithm to determine what your website is about and how you can use LSI Keywords and Synonyms for Search Engine Optimization to get higher search engine rankings. This is must know information!

Really the term is LSI, Latent Semantic Indexing or LSA Latent Semantic Analysis.

I am using the Term LSI Keywords because:

1) The two are closely related when discussing on page SEO and

2) The Term "LSI Keywords" is a keyword phrase that I can rank well with in the search engines. I determined this using keyword analysis.

LSI Keywords and Latent Semantics Indexing Definition

Latent Semantics Indexing is based upon the fact that words that are used in the same context tend to have the same meaning. If there is enough similarity in the text of a Web page to the keywords in the title etc, then Googles ranking Algorithm Model determines that the web page in question really is focused on the keywords

AND most importantly to you, this means that Google will return your web page higher up in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) in response to a users query for that keyword!

So LSI is a method for indexing a website that Google uses that is often referred to as LSI Keywords. Search engines use this to analyze the keywords and content of websites to derive the true content and focus of the websites rather then just relying on a list of keywords that are populated thru out a website.

LSI Keywords – why do the search engines care about this?

This is part of the evolution of Search Engines Algorithms as they try and return the best website for a users keyword search in a search engine.

Many years ago people would try to put the best keywords possible in the Keyword Meta Tag field and that helped get ranking> Then that was quickly abused and search engines no longer trusted that solely. Remember people only use a search engine if it will give them the information they want. If you search on dogs and the search engines kept bringing back porno or spam sites you would quickly switch to another search engine. So the search engines want to find the best sites possible for the keywords you are searching for.

As the web evolved the search engines moved to looking for the keyword in the heading tags and in the body but again people quickly moved to "Keyword Stuffing" and all kinds of keyword games to fake out the search engines.

So now the search engines like Google are using Latent Semantics Indexing to try to analyze the keywords and synonyms on a page to determine if the content truly relates to the keywords and then the Search Engines Index the page according to the result!

LSI Keywords – How you can use LSI Keywords for On Page SEO for better search engine rankings and free organic traffic.

You are doing On Page SEO When

You optimize a blog post or website page so that the search engines can best understand what the page is about and send traffic there. LSI Keywords are a way to do this better.
When you optimize the page for a specific keyword phrase so that the search engines rank your page high up in the results pages when people search on that keyword phrase. LSI Keywords REALLY helps here.

Free Organic Traffic is

What people call traffic (the people) sent to your site by the search engines that you did not pay for. You do on page SEO to try and get more of this free organic traffic.

How to use LSI Keywords to do on page SEO and get Free Organic Traffic:

Clearly you still need to use your keywords and Keyword Phrases (you can click on thsi link to read an article on a high quality reasonably priced Keyword Tool)

But in addition to that you want to use related Synonyms and other words concerning the same topic to convince Google that your site is really based around the subject on the keyword and really not just trying to rank highly for a common keyword so they can sell people Viagra!

By writing your article or post using the keywords and the related words that LSI says you should (hence the term LSI Keywords), you can both help the search engines find and rank your page better (you are improving the on page SEO) but you can also write articles that your readers find easier to understand because you are using various words on the same subject to refine your article rather then trying to awkwardly jam in the same keyword over and over!

LSI Keywords – A real example

Here is a live example to make this clearer.

The title of this article is LSI Keywords. You have seen me use it over and over.

Great! Lots of use of the main Keyword Phrase right?.

But here is something you may not have Known.

1) I have written this article while observing a list of LSI terms that are part of a WordPress Plugin I purchased.

2) It gives me the Top Related Semantic Keywords and Synonyms for any primary keyword phrase!.

3) I have used those terms thru out this article!

4) So this article is your real life example of LSI Keywords for on page SEO in action!

LSI Keywords – Using the Clickbump SEO plugin

I use the clickbump SEO plugin for On Page SEO. It not only gives me the LSI words but it checks my posts for a dozen other on page SEO rules and it really works!

I have talked at length about Keyword Selection tools vs Keyword Software Systems in the past And I will try to some up the differences in whats out there for you and anyone else who is interested in obtaining better traffic thru the search engines.

Here are my top nuggets when it comes to Keyword Analysis, Keyword software, SEO and targeted traffic:

1) Before getting caught up on keywords, understand your market, where you fit in that market, what you want to do in that market, the terminology of that market, your competitors in that market and the realities of ecommerce/affiliate marketing in that market. If you fail to take the time to do this step then you will never have a focused plan for your blog or web business and your success will be greatly limited.

2) After writing down the answers to the question in 1 (along with your Business Plan for what your goals are and how you want to try to achieve those goals) you can start looking into the wonderful world of SEO and Keywords. To Start you can browse are many many articles on the subject at: http://www.keywordsoftwareguide.com/category/keywords-software-articles.

To make it easy I will give yon some basic KEYWORD LAWS (according to me anyhow):

1) Researching Keywords with a free tool Like wordtracker or google adwords or whatever is NOT ENOUGH! If you are serious bout this then you need to invest $50-$100 (you don't need to spend more IMO) on a high quality Keyword Software Toll like Keyword Research Pro.

2) Keyword Research is not enough because it is more then just finding keywords for your niche. you need to analyze what keywords your competitors are using, you need to understand the competition for the keywords and how often they are used by ALL the major search engines – not just google. Keyword Research Pro Software will help you with all this and a dozen more critical things.

3) You need to not just analyze the "best" keywords but you need to analyze how they are searched for in phrases so you can use those phrase. 90% of your competitors are just going to try to find the quick top 3 keywords using wordtracker or google or something and try to compete for those words. LET THEM!

4) While they all try to get ranked for the top 3 words you do the research for phrases and long tailed keywords that everyone else is ignoring so your pages can get rankled as #1 in google for those terms. Again Keyword Research Pro will do this analysis for you in MINUTES not days. So will some of the more expensive packages.

5) Using Google, wordtracker or even google wonder wheel (puke) is OK for brainstorming if you want to but it is only a small part of the keyword research and analysis stage.

6) Then you need to learn about all the places on your Website that you can use those keywords. yes there are many more places then just in the articles or in the websites Keywords meta tag. How about with the pictures? How about in the headings, in the file location names and etc. To find out more on this read some of the articles in the link I mentioned above.

7) Once you have your site up and running use one of the many free Website analysis tools like Google webmaster to analyze where you are ranking for what Keywords. This is ESSENTIAL. You did all the work to understand your market and where you fit in it and your business plan to take a piece of it, You did all the work (allot faster and easier with Keyword Research PRO but still a lot of work) to find the terms and phrases, and then you did all the work to site the articles and implant the keywords and phrases and now you are just going to sit back and wonder why the traffics not coming???

NO! Be smart, use a tool that analyses the traffic to your Website and what terms you rank on what pages for on various search engines and then do the analysis to determine why certain phrase or keywords are not working for you! Again Google analytics and google webmaster are free and a great place to start!!

Can’t We Skip Keyword Research?

I came across an interesting forum post today. The guy was wondering if he could just skip keyword research and just go ahead with writing about his topic. His logic was that if he ignored keywords, he would still naturally include good target keywords. Although this may produce slightly better content, he would be missing out on many potential keywords and opportunities for more related content. Essentially he would be losing some traffic.

Missing Potential Keywords

When you write about a topic, it is not realistic to expect all of your keywords to naturally be included in your writing. Just because you might know a lot about a topic, it does not mean that you use all the different terminology that exists in your niche. You likely have preferred names for things and you write a certain way.

Your visitors use a very wide range of keywords to find what you are writing about. They do not all use the exact same vocabulary and spelling, especially if you are targeting multiple geographical regions. People use search engines differently too. One person might prefer to search for one or two word phrases. Another person might like to type entire sentences or questions.

If you do not take the time to find out which keywords are more popular, you are only targeting the people who think like you. If you’re lucky you might accidentally target some other keywords too. Think of all the other keywords that you are probably forgetting.

Missing Related Topics

In addition to searching differently, your target visitors may be looking for a wide variety of things related to your topic. Some people may only want broad information or images. Others may only be interested in a very specific subtopic of your chosen topic. If the person is looking to shop, they might only be looking to compare products or they might be trying to find a particular product. Without doing proper keyword research, you might not think of some related topics that people are also frequently searching for.

If you are an expert in your field with years of experience, you probably can accurately predict a lot of the related topics that people might be searching for. Still you might be wrong about the preferred terminology. There could also be related topics that are brand new that you didn’t even know about. Trends change over time and new keywords can become popular overnight.

When you research related keywords you might realize that there is an important topic that you have not covered with your website content. This may warrant a separate article or even a whole new section of your website. By covering many topics related to your niche, you develop an authority website that answers all of your visitors’ questions. Plus you get more traffic from a wider variety of keywords.

Summary

So before you start writing your next article or blogpost, make sure you first research all of the possible keywords that are used within your niche. If you want a successful website, you don’t want traffic from just a few keywords, you want traffic from every important keyword related to your topic. Why do I need keywords?

People searching in the search engines are looking for something specific. Social traffic is just looking around. If you can provide what search traffic is looking for you can convert that traffic like crazy.

Keywords for subscribers

Let’s say you are building a list. You are giving away a great course or ebook to get people to trade their email and name. You are getting some traffic, but if you can find a good keyword related to your course you could get even more. Find a good keyword related to your course, set you opt in page up and then build links to the opt in page using your keyword as your anchor text. If your course is on dog training, and you come up first in Google for dog training, and you are offering a free course on dog training, don’t you think people are going to stop by and sign up? Using keywords is a great way to increase your subscribers.

Get more blog readers

There’s a huge debate raging over content being king right now. Content is good, but if you want to get a ton of targeted traffic to your site you should be using keywords. Find high search volume relevant keywords. Then do the work it takes to get to the top of the search engines for that keyword. Have it linked to a specific post in your blog/site and you will be getting good targeted traffic to that post whether you write daily, weekly or monthly!

Get leads for Network Marketing

This is very similar to getting more subscribers. In fact, you could do exactly the same thing, just have it relate to your business. Set up an opt in page, it can go to an autoresponder, or you can collect phone numbers and email and call the person. The key here is to find keywords that are very relevant to your particular business, not just network marketing in general. You will be more likely to convert that traffic into customers and partners if they are interested in the specific type of business you have to offer. You can always try for work from home, or network marketing type keywords, but they are a pretty competitive group of keywords. You will be better off trying to find keywords related to your industry. Say you are in health/wellness related company. Try to find keywords related to specific products or benefits your products provide. Then put together a course or short report to give people to overcome a problem. This will move them to trade an email address or phone number.

How to sell products with keyword research

If you have a product of your own, or are an affiliate, keyword research should be your best friend. Find keywords related to the product you are selling. Set up a page somewhere, with a review, or information about that product. You can then push your content to the top of the search engine for that specific keyword. For example, I just launched a keyword research step by step tutorial ebook. I found keywords relevant to doing keyword research that I could dominate in the search engines. I put a page up on my blog (you could use the affiliate merchants sales page, or a review page on a free blog or your own blog) and now am in the process of getting ranked for my keywords which are linked to the page about my book. This is the best way to get seriously qualified traffic to my sales page. You can do this for any product or service whether it’s your own or you are an affiliate. It takes some time, but it is well worth it, considering the traffic will keep coming, even after you move on to your next affiliate product. You will still be getting traffic from that organic search listing.

As you can see there are so many ways you can increase your business just by doing simple keyword research. Keyword research should be at the top of any internet marketers list of things to do. If you aren’t using it you are leaving tons of money on the table.
